Our local mission began after our New Orleans home repair ministry when our eyes were opened to the need in our local communities. A home should be a safe place in which one can relax and find healing, but sometimes house conditions can be damaging to someone’s life or livelihood. There are several local relief organizations that receive such projects. Mustard Seed Ministries works with many of these organizations to select volunteer projects. In the past we have worked with Home Repair Services, Disability Advocates, Area on Aging, United Way, and others. In addition to working with the referring organization, we encourage local churches to sponsor building materials and/or provide volunteers. Mustard Seed Ministries will then guide a team of volunteers through the actual building process. Repairing a home gives us an opportunity to nourish the lives of others and, if appropriate, facilitate other needs including financial guidance and marriage/individual counseling, etc. Our team members have many faith-building experiences and stories to share with new volunteers. We know that we can meet the needs of others if we have the heart to serve.
At MSM, we believe in action-based volunteers. Service is worship and we want to connect everyone willing to serve to a project they can get their hands on. Everyone has gifts and talents to offer our communities. See our volunteer page for more information on some types of services we have provided.
